Setalvad was the co-petitioner.

Upholding the clean chit of the SIT, the Supreme Court on Friday said that Setalvad exploited the sentiments of Jafri.

“Teesta Setalvad’s antecedents need to be considered and also because she is torturing the matter out of vengeance. [dispute] For his hidden designs by exploiting the feelings and emotions of Zakia Jafri, the real victim of the circumstances,” the apex court said.

The case pertains to the incident known as the Gulberg Society incident, in which 68 people, including former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, were killed in the riots that broke out in a train compartment in February 2002, in which 59 people were killed.

On Friday, upholding the SIT’s nod, the top court dismissed the petition filed by Zakia Jafri, saying the plea was “for boiling pots, apparently for inverted design”.

However, Ehsan Jafri’s son Tanveer Jafri has said that he is disappointed with the SC’s decision. “I am disappointed with the court’s decision. Since I am out of the country, I will give a detailed statement after studying the verdict,” the news agency quoted Tanveer as saying. PTI,
