The Chief Minister said that we are celebrating World Lion Day since 2016 to increase public awareness about the conservation of lions. In the areas where Asiatic lions live, rescue centers have been set up according to the need. Not only this, these rescue centers are well equipped with veterinary doctors, advanced equipment for treatment, equipment for rescue operations, vehicles.
The Lion Ambulance is equipped with advanced equipment for immediate treatment of lions. A state-of-the-art Lion Hospital for Lions has been set up at Sasan. Apart from this, the Forest Department has established Gir Hi-Tech Monitoring Unit equipped with advanced technology for continuous monitoring of lions.
Giving information, the Chief Minister said that to preserve the genetic traits of Singh, gene pools have been started at three places namely Rampara in Saurashtra, Shakarbagh in Junagadh and Satvirda. This statue is a three-dimensional symbol of our country (also known as Raj Chin) showing four lions. It has a replica of four Asiatic lions standing one after the other on a broad base.
A replica of the Gir lion has also been placed as the logo of the Prime Minister’s flagship project, the Make in India campaign. The Chief Minister said that Singh is also the mascot of the 36th National Games to be held in the state.
Stating that people have contributed a lot in the conservation of lions, the Chief Minister appreciated the awareness of Gir’s wild animals, especially among the children of the coming generation.
Around 1.5 million people have been a part of the celebration of World Lion Day, which includes a large number of students, 6800 students and people from colleges and schools in 6 districts of Saurashtra, along with forest lovers, pioneers and wildlife lovers.
The Chief Minister said that the local people living in the forest area have accepted the coexistence with Singh and have upheld our tradition of live and let live. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel also said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has started the Lion Project for the conservation of Asiatic Lions.
The Chief Minister categorically said that there has been a steady increase in the lion population due to the concrete steps taken by the government, tireless efforts of the Forest Department and public participation.
