Late Congress MLA and former Health Minister Dr Anil Joshiara’s son joined the ruling BJP on Tuesday at a function in Bhiloda town of Aravalli district of Gujarat. According to a party release, Kewal Joshiyara was inducted into the party by Gujarat BJP President CR Patil with around 1,300 supporters.

“I am joining BJP because I am impressed by the development work done by the Prime Minister” Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s government. I have joined the party without expecting any ticket. I will try my best to ensure BJP’s victory from Bhiloda seat. The state assembly elections in Gujarat are expected to be held in December.

Dr. Anil Joshiara was a five-time MLA from Bhiloda (ST) seat in Aravalli district and a prominent tribal face of the Congress in North Gujarat. The senior Congress leader died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Chennai in March, when the state assembly was in session. The surgeon, Joshiara, was first elected MLA from Bhiloda on a BJP ticket in 1995 and served as health minister in the Shankarsinh Vaghela-led government between 1996 and 1997.

He later joined the Congress after Vaghela merged his Rashtriya Janata Party with the party in 1998.
