England’s flamboyant batsman Jason Roy withdrew from the upcoming IPL citing his prolonged stay in the tournament bubble, dealing a blow to his new franchise Gujarat Titans a few weeks ahead of the event. According to a reportespncricinfo’, Roy informed the franchise about his decision last week. The Titans are yet to finalize a replacement.

The 31-year-old South African-born English cricketer was signed by Gujarat Titans in the mega auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore.

The development comes as a big blow to the Gujarat franchise as Roy was the only specialist opener other than young Shubman Gill to be picked by them.

This is the second time that an English player is withdrawing from the IPL. He withdrew from the 2020 edition due to personal reasons after he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 1.5 crore.

The 15th edition of IPL is scheduled to start from March 26 and will end in the last week of May.

Last season, Roy represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and played a few good innings this year before continuing his form in the Pakistan Super League, where he switched to Quetta Gladiators.

PSL was also played in Bio Secure Bubble.

He played only six matches for the franchise and still finished as their highest run-scorer with 303 runs at an average of 50.50 and a strike-rate of 170.22.

Notably, Roy was blessed with his second child in January.
