The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 28 wards, while its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has won in four wards as counting of votes is underway in 57 wards of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
An official of news agency ANI told, “BJP has won 28 wards so far, while its ally AGP has won in 4 wards and AAP and Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) have won one ward each. Has won.”
BJP’s ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) had contested from seven wards under a seat-sharing agreement with the BJP.
Counting of votes for GMC elections began at 8 am at Moniram Dewan Trade Center in Guwahati.
Out of 60 wards of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, polling was held in 57 wards on April 22 as the BJP won the other three unopposed.
The polling for Guwahati Municipal Corporation was 52.80 percent.
The Congress contested the maximum number of wards in 54 wards, followed by the ruling BJP in 50, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 39 and the Asom Jatiya Parishad in 25.
197 candidates are in the fray. The BJP had fielded candidates on 53 seats, out of which three were elected unopposed. 19 others, including independents, are also in the polls.
The Asom Gana Parishad, an ally of the saffron party in the ruling alliance in Dispur, is contesting in seven wards.
When asked how many votes BJP would get, BJP candidate from Ward No 16 Pramod Swamy exuded confidence of winning the GMC election and said that the people of Assam have faith in the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the development work done under him. leadership in the state.
“There is already a double engine government here and BJP will get full votes as the people of Assam have faith in Himanta Biswa Sarma and the development work done under his leadership,” Swamy said.
Another BJP candidate from ward number 55, Manoj Kumar Nath expressed confidence of winning the full vote and said, “I am confident that BJP will win in all 57 wards. The Chief Minister has done a lot for the people of Assam and He did. His trust in him.”
In a veiled attack on state Chief Minister Manjit Mahanta, the Congress leader said that this time people will give their answer for the corruption led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Congress leader said, “Out of 60, you need 30-32 votes to form the government, Indian National Congress will get majority. We are going to form GMC.”
