The monsoon season sees a total of three Teej festivals, with Hariyali Teej being the most popular. After Hariyali Teej and Karjari Teej, today (August 30) Indian women are celebrating Hartalika Teej, which is also dedicated to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for marital bliss. According to the Hindu calendar, Hartalika Teej falls during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month. Women mark the occasion by fasting and worshiping Goddess Parvati. They wear green and red colours, apply henna on their hands and fast for the whole day. Teej festival is mostly celebrated in the regions of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi.

The festive rituals follow a one-day Nirjala fast (without food and water); Some even observe a fast for 24 hours, serving it with soaked black gram and cucumber and following it up with a sumptuous vegetarian meal.
