The Union Health Ministry on Friday confirmed that a 56-year-old man from Haryana, a lung cancer patient who died recently, had tested positive for H3N2 virus in January.

“As per preliminary information, the patient, a 56-year-old male resident of Jind district who died at home on 08-02-23, was a lung cancer patient. He had tested positive for H3N2 virus at PGIMS Hospital, Rohtak in January. did,” the officer said.
The official said the patient had tested positive for Influenza A subtype H3N2 virus On 17 January.
Apart from this, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij told that till now 10 cases of H3N2 virus have been reported in Haryana.
He urged that everyone should take precautions. “There is no need to panic. It is like H1N1, even milder. We are making all preparations,” Vij said.
The Haryana lung cancer patient is the second death due to H3N2 virus in India. Seasonal influenza subtype H3N2 also killed an eighty-year-old man in Karnataka.
In Karnataka, 82-year-old Hire Gowda died due to H3N2 virus on March 1, said a state health department official.
The official said that Gowda was a diabetic and was also suffering from high blood pressure. The DHO said the patient was admitted to a hospital on February 24 and died on March 1 and a sample was sent for test, which confirmed on March 6 that he was infected with the virus.
As per the latest data available on IDSP-IHIP (Integrated Health Information Platform), there were 3,038 laboratory confirmed cases of different subtypes of Influenza, which include H3N2States have been informed by March 9.
This includes 1,245 cases in January, 1,307 in February and 486 cases till March 9, the ministry said.
The Union Health Ministry on Friday said it was closely monitoring the situation and expected a decline in cases from the end of the month.
According to a statement, the ministry is also monitoring the morbidity and mortality due to H3N2 subtype of seasonal influenza.
