The stomach plays the most important role in maintaining your health. When you monitor what you eat, you make sure that you are only giving your stomach essentials and not junk food. But according to Ayurvedic physician Diksa Bhavsar Savaliya, apart from having a good diet, certain daily exercises should be avoided to improve digestion.
The health expert on Instagram reveals 5 mistakes to avoid.
Take a bath right after the meal.
According to Ayurveda, the body is made up of five elements. The fire element becomes active after eating from these. It is the element responsible for the digestion of food. But when we take a bath immediately after eating food then the body temperature decreases and hence the digestion process slows down. It is advisable to have a gap of at least 2 hours between your meals and frequent baths for proper digestion.
- walking right after a meal
The vata dosha is activated when we walk, swim or exercise right after eating. This leads to improper digestion and hence incomplete absorption of nutrients which in turn lead to deficiencies which can cause problems later. - eating after 2 pm
According to Ayurveda, when the sun is at its peak in the sky, the body produces the most pitta. This happens every day between 12 noon and 2 pm. Since Pitta helps in easy digestion, one should have lunch in the given time to avoid digestive problems. This is why lunch is considered the most important meal of the day and should always be heavy. - yogurt consumption at night
At night, Kapha dosha always predominates along with Pitta dosha. Eating curd at night can lead to an excess of kapha in the body, which can obstruct the digestive system. Due to this curd stays in the stomach overnight and next morning there is constipation. - sleeping right after a meal
You should have your last meal of the day at least three hours before going to bed. This is because, according to Ayurveda, the body’s energy at night is focused on two major things – healing the body, helping the mind “digest” the thoughts, experiences, and feelings from the day. If we eat anything just before bedtime, it converts the energy from these two actions into the physical activity of digestion. This stops the process of mental digestion and physical healing.
