HDFC Bank issues record credit cards after ban, relaunches 3 cards

HDFC Bank on Wednesday announced that the private lender has issued a record over 4 lakh credit cards as of September 21 since the ban was lifted. The bank has also unveiled the relaunch of 3 cards HDFC bankThe Millennia, MoneyBack+ and Freedom cards are being rediscovered.

The new card variants will be available to customers in October 2021. Existing Freedom and Millennia card holders will also be able to enjoy the new benefits and the same will be notified by the Bank.

“As a leader in the card space, we promised, we will be back with a bang. We are now pushing not only to acquire new customers, but also to enhance our existing card offerings ,” said Mr. Parag Rao, Group Head – Payments, Consumer Finance, Digital Banking & IT, HDFC Bank.

“Our strategy of re-inventing, creating and co-creating is designed based on analysis of customers’ buying behaviour, categories they spend and spending patterns. The months we have spent preparing and sharpening our strategy are now paying off. We are geared up to bring best in class offers and experiences to our customers during the festive season.”

Last month, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) partially lifted the restrictions imposed on HDFC Bank last December, allowing it to resume issuing credit cards.

The central bank in December last year barred the private lender from launching new digital banking initiatives and issuing new credit cards. This is after a few incidents in the Internet Banking / Mobile Banking / Payment utilities of the Bank in the last 2 years.
