“Interference in the development of the market by politicians for their own benefit had become a major hindrance. It is good that the authorities dealt with these leaders strictly and acted as per the law,” said senior citizen Mahabaleshwar Sindgi.

HDMC commissioner B Gopalakrishna told TOI on Wednesday that the municipal corporation has decided to build a road here and make drains on both sides so that rain water does not enter the market.
“We have identified the legitimate occupants of the shops and after creating the platform to sell vegetables and other items, the space will be allotted to the listed legitimate traders. Along with this, facilities like drinking water, toilets and sanitation will be provided.
Plans are underway to provide a resting place for senior citizens and a play area for children. Gopalakrishna said this can be done in a public-private partnership model.
