LUDHIANA: Heat wave has aggravated skin problems but dermatologists of the city claim that this itchiness, rash and tanning can be prevented with proper care.
Dermatologist Dr Alka Dogra finds five to six cases a day of heat-related skin problems like photo-contact dermatitis, hydrated and inflamed acne, fungal infections like athlete’s foot and bacterial infections like boils. She said: “Tanning is happening on exposed skin due to strong sunlight. Prolonged sun exposure causes sunburns and burns in all age groups. ,
Another city-based dermatologist Dr Justinder Gill Said: “The immediate reactions to sunburn are swelling, redness of the skin, and burning on the face, but in the case of patients with chronic skin diseases, the itching is more severe in the sun-exposed areas. Middle-aged or older skin particularly vulnerable.” She advises people to avoid the sun or wear sunscreen or a hat from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They should also carry an umbrella.
Dermatologist and President of Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr Bimal Kanish said that photo dermatitis occurs when the face or outer forearm is exposed to direct sunlight. The affected area first turns red and then turns white. He added: “In the case of fungal allergies, sweating causes scabies and it mostly affects the legs, groin and hand areas. But these can be avoided by taking preventive measures.”
He recommends wearing arm-length clothes instead of sleeveless outfits. He advises his patients to use a good talcum or anti-fungal powder along with applying sunscreen if they step outside. cottonThey say that it is the best skin-friendly fabric and ideal for summers.
