Practicing handstands can be a fun way to get your mojo back, and it looks like actress Soha Ali Khan is already doing it. Earlier this week, the 43-year-old actress shared a glimpse of her fitness routine and showed how she loves to practice Adho Mukha Vrikshasana or Downward Tree Pose, commonly known as Handstand.
Adho Mukha Vrikshasana or Handstand is a unique way to lift your mood and build confidence as well as build strength in the shoulders, back and abdomen. However, before you begin your journey to practice this pose, you should practice basic exercises to strengthen your shoulder and core muscles.
Follow the steps given below to perform this complex yoga asana:
- Start in Downward-Facing Dog Pose and then bring the crease of their wrist parallel to the front edge of the mat. Bend your upper arms towards the direction of the wall in front. Press down evenly with your hands.
- As you inhale, lift your heel and on an exhale, move your right foot about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way of your hands and your shoulders forward and straight over your wrists.
- Keeping your left leg straight, bend your right knee slightly. At the end of your next exhalation, push off your front foot to lift your left leg into Standing Splits pose. While practicing this pose, keep your shoulders above your wrists.
Now, lift your left thigh up, and press down into your hands and straighten your arms. - Bend your right knee deeply and take a short hop with your right foot. Shifting your weight to your hands, lift up through your left thigh.
Repeat this process until you bring your right foot in line with your left. Focus on bringing your hips to your shoulders. - After bringing your right foot to your left, draw your lower belly in and move your tailbone toward your heel. Bring your heels away from your shoulders.
Remain in this position for 5-8 breaths. To land back on your feet, slowly drop one foot at a time to the floor and pause in a standing forward bend.
