Amid the hijab controversy in Karnataka, the government on Thursday decided to resume classes for high school students from next week, even as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the High Court has asked students to Religious dress should not be worn in colleges.

Earlier, the Chief Justice asked the media to refrain from reporting the observations made by the bench during the hearing. The hijab controversy started in late December when some students at the Government Pre-University College in Udupi started wearing hijabs. Protesting this, some Hindu students arrived wearing saffron scarves. The controversy also spread to other educational institutions in different parts of the state and protests turned violent earlier this week, following which the government on Tuesday declared a three-day holiday for the institutions.
