Himachal Pradesh Congress President Harsh Mahajan joins BJP ahead of assembly elections

Amid political woes in Rajasthan, where Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his loyal MLAs are showing defiance against the party high command, the Congress party suffered another setback in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday as working Congress president Harsh Mahajan quit the party and rivals Indian joined. Harsh Mahajan, a former state cabinet minister and close aide of late former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, described the Congress as “blind, directionless and leaderless”. Himachal Congress is ruled by “mother-son” like Delhi.

Singh’s wife Pratibha Singh is currently the state Congress president and his son Vikramaditya Singh is the party MLA. There is nothing left in the Congress after the death of the former Chief Minister.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister and senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal was also present during this. Mahajan lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and affirmed that the Prime Minister has provided a “strong government”.

Piyush Goyal said, “BJP will create history in Himachal Pradesh by retaining power after elections due later this year. Mahajan was with Congress for more than four decades.”

Piyush Goyal welcomed Mahajan to the BJP and confirmed that the former Congress leader has held important positions in the previous Himachal governments and has maintained a clean image.

Mahajan’s resignation will increase political mercury electoral state The BJP felt back in control after a few setbacks, the biggest of which was its loss of a by-election to the Congress last year.

The state, which usually changes government after every five years, is in a dilemma this time. On the one hand, there is a wave of anti-incumbency against the current BJP government, while the Congress also seems oblivious after the death of former Chief Minister and party veteran Virbhadra Singh.
