In Himachal Pradesh, 12-15 houses were gutted in Malana village of Kullu district late on Tuesday night. The fire, which started around midnight, quickly spread to a dozen houses. Due to lack of road connectivity, fire tenders could not reach the village, so the villagers themselves tried to douse the fire. Considered as the world’s oldest surviving democracy, Malana Village is situated on a remote plateau along the Malana Nallah at an altitude of 3,029 meters and houses about 352 families. The fire started from a house in the village and soon spread to nearby houses as all the houses were made of wood. ITBP Babeli, fire brigade and home guard team also reached the spot for rescue.
