Holiday in stock market: BSE, NSE to remain closed today on Republic Day

Indian stock market BSE and NSE It will be closed on Wednesday on the occasion of Republic Day, its first holiday in the new year 2022. There will be no trading in Equity Segment, Equity Derivatives Segment and SLB Segment.

On Tuesday, the benchmark indices broke a five-day losing streak as they ended 366 points higher at 57,858. The National Stock Exchange’s Nifty 50 closed 128.85 points or 0.75% higher at 17,277.9. Among the broader markets, BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices advanced over 1%.

Auto stock Maruti Suzuki was the top index gainer after posting consolidated net profit at Rs. 1,041.8 crore for the December quarter, higher than expected. Axis Bank, SBI, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, PowerGrid and NTPC were also among the top supporters. Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra and Bajaj Finserv, Titan, UltraTech Cement were the top laggards.

“Markets corrected significantly in the last 4-5 sessions on the back of some global uncertainty. Now if there is no further divergence on the global front, 17000 – 16800 will act as a key support for Nifty ahead of Budget. Since volatility is likely to be higher, traders are advised to remain light, but can certainly look for stock specific buying opportunities,” said Sameet Chavan (Chief Analyst-Technical & Derivatives, Angel One .

Meanwhile, the domestic currency rupee on Tuesday shed 18 paise to close at 74.78 against the US dollar due to month-end dollar demand from oil importers, foreign currency outflows and a stronger dollar in overseas markets. .

As per the information available on the BSE website, there will be a total of 13 holidays in the stock markets in 2022. The next holidays of the stock market will fall on Mahashivratri on March 1 and Holi on March 18.
