Global NCAP has crash tested the 4th generation Honda City compact sedan and Jazz premium hatchback
In the first round of testing under its Safe Cars for India program in 2022, Global NCAP has results for two Honda models to be sold in the country. honda city compact sedans and honda jazz The premium hatch has been tested for frontal offset impact. And I want to clarify here that it is the old Honda City and not the new 5th generation that has been tested. This is because the 4th gen is the most basic version of the car available in the market, and Global NCAP always tests the base variant in case of any accidents. Despite being an older generation, the result is good with 4-star scoring for the safety of adults in the car. The lack of a 3-point seatbelt in the middle rear seat also cost it a few points. The dummy impact chart also shows the least injuries to the front. The car’s structure and footwell were still rated as unstable.

“Having an unstable structure does not necessarily mean that the car will perform poorly, and on the other hand. The stability of the structure counts for one or two points in 17. The points we assess,” Alejandro Fures, Secretary General of Global NCAP, told carandbike. Of course if you have a bad structure then other things are likely to be affected. But what Honda is using adds another element to the structure going over the wheel arch. What does it do? You have a much wider structure available to absorb energy, dissipate energy and direct it out of the (passenger) compartment. Plus it’s good because you’re less aggressive to crash anyway are happening.”

Global NCAP has crash tested the 4-gen City as it is the most basic variant of the car that is available in the market, and it always tests the base variant of any car.
The Honda Jazz in India is also now of a much older vintage, and shares its platform and parts with that old city. It has also garnered a very high 4-star rating. The protection for front occupants also shows minimal injury. Once again – even though it is now an older generation of the car, its crash scores reflect better performance than some of its India-made rivals – even cars that transitioned to a new generation cycle Huh.
The fourth-generation Honda City scored 4-stars for its safety for adults, as well as children, but the lack of a 3-point seatbelt in the middle rear seat cost it a few points
For child occupant safety, the standard ISOFIX child seat mounts saw good performance on the City, which translates into a high 4 star score for child occupant protection. On the Jazz, however, the score fell and the car lost points for not offering the Isofix – which is strange because it shares so much with the city. But the structural integrity and stable shell helped bring it closer to 4 stars here as well. The lack of a 3-point rear middle seatbelt affected the overall score on the Jazz as well.
Honda Jazz too got 4 stars for both adult and child occupant protection but it lost points for not offering Isofix, which the City offers.
Honda responded to carandbike’s questions regarding the crash tests with a statement. It says, “The latest Global NCAP crash test results for both models emphasize Honda’s long-term commitment to safety for all that is not limited to the needs of car drivers but also the lives of passengers, pedestrians and all vehicles.” We continue to refine our innovative safety technologies and equip each new generation of vehicles with the most advanced and effective safety technologies to ensure everyone’s safety on the road.”
The Jazz scored slightly better than the Citi in terms of adult occupant protection, but the Citi did better in terms of child occupant protection.
0 notes
Honda’s overall approach towards safety is very reliable. Safety has been incorporated into the development of the platform, which makes us very confident and optimistic about the trickle-down effect on all Honda models in India and in any market. The fact that previous generation bicycle cars are scoring so well speaks volumes when rivals are not necessarily on the same level as the new generation of their cars.
