Honda: Upcoming car/SUV launch in May: Honda City Hybrid to Jeep Meridian – Times of India

In just three months, the Indian automotive industry has already witnessed some remarkable launches across various sectors. However, there is certainly no slowing down. The days ahead are going to be hectic for the carmakers with the list of expected launches in India.
mercedes, jeep, HondaHyundai and Kia are going to introduce new vehicles in the Indian market soon. Here is a list of all the upcoming SUVs and cars that are ready for sale in the Indian market soon. let’s take a look.
jeep meridian
Jeep India recently revealed the seven seater Meridian SUV in the Indian market and the pre-bookings for the SUV will start from 3rd May 2022.
The Jeep Meridian SUV is basically the taller version of the Compass and will be offered with 4×2 and 4×4 driving configurations.

In terms of design, the silhouette of the Meridian is similar to that of the compass but with a slightly more upright stance. The SUV gets LED headlamps with integrated DRLs similar to the Compass, a seven-slat grille, a muscular front bumper with a large air intake, LED fog lamps, side cladding with indicators and newly designed alloy wheels. The Meridian’s rear profile is inspired by that of larger jeeps including the Grand Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee.
Similar to the Compass, the Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that produces 172 Bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic.
Expect the price of Jeep Meridian to be between Rs 19 Lakh to Rs 33 Lakh. When launched, the Jeep Meridian competes with the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Isuzu MU-X, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700.
Honda City Hybrid
The next car on the list is the Honda City e:HEV. The car was unveiled on 14 April 2022 and is expected to be launched in May 2022.

Talking about the exteriors, the car remains identical to its ICE counterpart except for the E: HEV badge, new fog lamp garnish and the rear diffuser that differentiates the vehicle from the standard model. The interiors continue to feature the dual-tone scheme.
Honda City e: HEV is the first company to bring self-charging hybrid technology to the mid-size sedan segment in India. The Honda City Hybrid will be powered by dual electric motors mated to a 1.5-litre DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine.
The naturally aspirated, four-cylinder Atkinson engine is capable of producing 98 bhp power and 127 Nm of torque. In combination with the dual-electric motors, the car produces a combined 126 Bhp of power and 253 Nm of torque. The hybrid set-up is mated to an eCVT automatic transmission. Honda claims that the City Hybrid will return an average fuel efficiency of 26.5 kmpl.
Honda has started production of Honda City Hybrid. It has already rolled out the first unit off the assembly lines of the Japanese carmaker’s facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
Honda City e: HEV price in India is expected to be around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). There will be no direct competition with the Honda City Hybrid. However, in the mid-size sedan segment, it will compete with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and the upcoming Volkswagen Vertus.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Mercedes-Benz India recently announced that the new C-Class will be launched in India on 10 May 2022. The brand opened the bookings for its all-new C-Class exclusively for Mercedes-Benz customers from 13 to 30 April 2022. Booking amount will be fixed at Rs 50,000 from 1st May 2022 for the remaining customers. The car will be offered in three variants C200, C220d and C300d.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class in India will be offered in three engine options – a C200 with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 197 hp power, a C220d with a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 194 bhp power and a C300d produces. The same 2.0-litre diesel engine with the same tuned slightly tuned to produce 245 bhp power. A 9-speed automatic transmission will be offered as standard on all powertrains.
Expect the prices of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class to start at Rs 53 lakhs. When launched, it competes with the Jaguar XF, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Lexus ES.
Kia EV6
The all-electric Kia EV6 was unveiled globally on March 2021 and after a year, Kia is launching its first electric car in India on May 26, 2022. Built on the e-GMP EV platform, the EV6 will come to India as a CBU unit and will be limited to 100 units only.

Kia India is yet to reveal the powertrain options of the upcoming EV6 in India, however, we expect it to use a 58 kWh battery available in two configurations – 170 bhp with a rear-wheel-drive single-motor power and all-wheel-drive with a dual electric motor producing a power of 235 hp. The second option is a 77.4 kWh battery mated to a single motor that produces a cumulative 229 hp power under the guise of rear-wheel-drive. In all-wheel-drive, the battery along with the twin motors churns out 325 hp of power.
There is also a performance-focused GT variant with dual electric motors that churns out 585 bhp of power and a massive 740 Nm of torque.
In the US, the Kia EV6 price starts at $40,900 (approximately Rs 31,37,377 at current exchange rates).
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai is likely to launch the new Hyundai Tucson in India sometime in 2022 for the Indian market.
The new Tucson will come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic unit.

The Tucson will get a new grille with LED DRLs, 19-inch alloy wheels, new headlamps and more. Talking about the new Tucson interior, it will get a bigger touchscreen infotainment screen than the current model. The system is expected to come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We also expect Level 1 Autonomous Driving Technology in the car, as it is available in the international markets and is now gaining popularity in India.
