A public health expert and a member of the Lancet Commission has said that the number of hospitalizations in Delhi has increased in the last few days as the number of Covid cases continue to rise in the national capital. Public health expert, Dr Sunila Garg has also said that there are 9,000 beds and 500 of them have people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking with a news media company, Dr Sunila Garg said, “The recovery rate is good, but cases are increasing and hospitalizations are happening.”
“At present, over 500 beds of 9,000 are occupied. Of the 2,129 ICU beds, over 20 are occupied. At present 65 patients are on ventilation,” she told NDTV, adding that residents of Delhi should take precautions as they are admitted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has tweeted saying that the national capital is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 infections and Delhi residents cannot afford to let down their guard.
VK Saxena said, “We are witnessing an increase in COVID-19 infections, consistently high positivity and re-infection cases. It is necessary that we understand that The pandemic is not over yet, I appeal to all to strictly follow the COVID Appropriate Practices. We can’t afford to let our guards down.”
Delhi on Monday reported 1,227 new Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 14.57 per cent. According to the data shared by the health department, eight Covid-19 patients died. On Sunday, Delhi recorded 2,162 fresh Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 12.64 per cent, while five more people died due to the disease, according to data shared by the city’s health department.
Till Sunday, more than 2,000 cases have been reported daily for 12 consecutive days in Delhi. Ten Kovid-19 positive patients lost their lives on Friday.
