The final score of the students in class 10 and 12 will be based on their overall performance over the 2 years.
The draft NCF 2023 proposes modular exams instead of year-end exams. It has also been recommended to conduct board exams twice a year.
After the introduction of the draft National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the education system in India is set to witness a sea change. In the fifth revised edition of the education curriculum, many important changes are proposed in line with the new Education Policy 2020 (NEP). There is a possibility of major changes in the Indian education system in the coming few years. Now more focus will be given on skill based and practical education. The model of education will be made in such a way that children do not consider studies as a burden and not only study diligently but also be prepared for the future. Along with this, the format of the board exam will also be changed.
The draft NCF 2023 proposes modular exams instead of year-end exams. It has also been recommended to conduct board exams twice a year. The final score of the students in class 10 and 12 will be based on their overall performance over the 2 years. This may include at least four board exam sessions starting from class 9 and 11.
As reported by News18 earlier, students can then appear for the board exams in the courses they have completed and feel prepared for. This process may be possible through the creation of a comprehensive test item bank which can be used to create tests using appropriate software. The new changes also propose to work on teachers and consider adult education. Apart from textbooks, the NCF will restructure several other aspects of the classroom, including subject selection, instructional style and assessment, after being adopted by CBSE and other state boards.
As per the draft NCF, the secondary level is divided into 4 grades (Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12). In this phase, one can choose any 16 option-based courses from 8 curricular areas. These will be covered in 4 semesters. Each choice-based course will be covered in 1 semester. In this group of 8-8 students will have to give a total of 16-16 papers. It is proposed to club the parts of classes 11 and 12 together.
