New Delhi:

Two high-rise buildings built illegally in Noida were demolished today. The 100-metre-high Twin Towers were brought down in seconds, creating a huge cloud of dust.

Chetan Dutta, who pushed the button for the demolition of the Supertech Twin Towers in Noida, said that when the team behind the demolition found out it was successful, they “hug each other and cried”.

“After pressing the button, there was a loud sound. I looked at the building, apparently there was no building, only a pile of dust. We didn’t wait for the dust to settle, we put on our masks and entered the site.. .We realized that the blast was successful, then we hugged each other and cried.”

Edifice Engineering approached Mr. Dutta, who was assigned the task of demolishing the towers, so that they could serve as blasters. He said no one on the team spoke to each other after the demolition siren sounded because they were all “very tense”.

“We reached the spot half an hour before the blast happened. During that half hour, we didn’t talk to each other. Everyone was tense,” said Mr. Dutta, who runs a firm involved in the demolition construction. Is. ,

The controlled detonation using 3,700 kg of explosives was the largest demolition ever in India. The explosion was planned to ensure that the towers fall straight down in what is called the “waterfall technique”.

Thousands of people as well as stray dogs had to be pulled out of neighboring tall buildings before the explosion, one of which was just nine meters away.

The Supreme Court last year ordered the demolition of the towers after a protracted legal battle that found they violated several building rules and fire safety norms.
