Sudheer Babu in Telugu film ‘Hunt’
Towards the end of the Telugu film there is a reveal to hunt, after which the camera rests on the lead actor, Sudheer Babu, as he goes through anger, denial and acceptance of who he is. All the masculinity he displays up to that point, baring his rippling muscles and pulling off slick action sequences, is only part of the character’s personality. Perhaps it is this segment that prompted the team to adapt the 2013 Malayalam psychological cop drama thriller mumbai police in Telugu.
in the middle to hunt The bromance between three cops with the nickname Mumbai trio. Arjun Prasad (Sudheer Babu), Aryan Dev (Bharath) and Police Commissioner Mohan Bhargava (Srikanth) are rough as thieves until a murder separates them. For those who haven’t seen the Malayalam original, there’s a lot to chew on.
Hunt (Telugu)
Cast: Sudheer Babu, Srikanth, Bharath
Direction: Mahesh Surpaneni
Music: Ghibran
The film opens with Arjun meeting with an accident and partial memory loss. However, Mohan assigns him the responsibility of solving a murder case, with the belief that he will be able to solve it. Arjun being a bachelor makes it a bit easier for the script to drop the family angle and see him as just a cop.
A lot of questions arise as Arjun wades through a new chapter of his life, unaware of his surroundings and what has happened before. The film brings in his treating doctor (Manjula Ghattamaneni in a cameo) to find out what Arjun is capable of.
Most of the story revolves around the three male cops but a few female characters in their limited appearances propel the plot forward. Mounika Reddy as an investigating cop in Arjun’s team is impressive as a determined, balanced cop who doesn’t hesitate to tell Arjun when he is wrong.
Some pointers in the narrative indicate that Arjuna has swarthy complexion, is prone to inflicting violence on suspects, and does not think twice before behaving obnoxiously with a woman. The investigation of the crime and the rediscovery of his life by Arjun are interspersed with action sequences in which he shows off his agility as well as his toned physique. The plot cleverly uses this display of masculinity to reveal another aspect of his character much later.
source material for to hunt Interesting. But the film does not capitalize on this to deliver an engrossing thriller drama. The crime and the investigation need to speed up and the relationships between the various characters also lack emotional quotient. Srikanth is measured and controlled by Arjuna as the standing authority and friend. to hunt belongs to Sudheer, who should be commended for taking up a role which most mainstream heroes would consider risky.
If the story was more engaging, to hunt Would have been worthwhile
