Hyderabad gangrape: Despite car being washed, police claim “enough evidence”

The girl and her assailants met on May 28 at a party inside a pub in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad:

Police have claimed “enough evidence” from the Innova car, which was found at a farmhouse on Sunday, in which the girl was assaulted in the gang-rape case of a Hyderabad teenager. The car was washed, but forensic teams have reportedly found samples to prove sexual assault.

Evidence collected from the car includes tissues and an earring from a 17-year-old girl who was gang-raped by five men, including three minors linked to powerful politicians.

The girl and her assailants met on May 28 at a party inside a pub in Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills.

NDTV has learned that the pub was booked by two minors for a big bash before the school reopened. After booking a place for Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 per person, he allegedly sold tickets worth Rs 1,300 to those who attended the party.

The girl had come to the party with her friend, who left early. She later met the group who had assaulted her inside the Innova car that same evening. Security footage showed him standing outside the club with the group.

The police recorded his statement before the magistrate yesterday.

Four of the attackers are in police custody – one accused, Saaduddin Malik and three minors. Police have sought 10-day custody of the four. The fifth accused Omair Khan is absconding.

Of the three teenagers, one is the son of a leader of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), who heads the government-run minority institution, the other is the son of another TRS leader, and whose son is the third. A corporator from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

State Home Minister Mahmood Ali has vehemently denied reports of his grandson’s involvement in the booking of the pub. Talking to NDTV, he said that he had CCTV footage of his grandson at home that evening.

The involvement of teenagers from politically influential families has drawn nationwide condemnation of the attack and raised questions about the safety of women in India’s top cities.
