HYDERABAD: In a scathing testimony to the consequences of drug addiction, a young qualified engineer from the city consumed a drug cocktail and died after nearly two weeks in a government hospital a few days back.
It is learned that the 23-year-old had recently consumed alcohol in the city soon after returning from a drug addiction in Goa along with his drug addict friends. He is unemployed since last two years.
Doctors said the cocktail of LSD blots, ecstasy, cocaine and marijuana that the young man ate had shot his nervous system, rendering him unable to perform even the most basic of activities. A video capturing the man’s desperate struggle was played out by Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-New) DCP G Chakraborty at a press meet on Thursday, exposing the alarming levels of being high on drugs.
While the man’s drug addict/peddler friend Prem Upadhyay has been arrested, three other addicts – a software engineer, a guitarist and a BTech student – have been named as accused. All of them had gone to party in Goa. Police have seized 6 LSD blots, 10 ecstasy pills, 100 grams of hash oil and 4 phones from Prem.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) DS Chauhan said, “Anyone who has information related to narcotics or drug addicts, please share it with us so that we can save them and their families. We will protect the identity of the informer.” ” press meet
“The main accused Prem has been addicted to drugs since his college days. Later, he became a peddler to earn money. He used to buy hash oil from a Lakshmipathy for Rs 1,000 for 5 ml, which he would sell for Rs 3,000 was. Prem often went to Goa. To buy LSD blots and ecstasy pills for his customers in the city,” said a cop, adding Lakshmipathy is still at large.
Chouhan said it was difficult to contain the problem at source in Goa as the jurisdiction there was limited to Telangana.
“But there are cases where we have been successful in arresting peddlers from such areas as well,” Chouhan said.
