The SUV segment in India has become quite popular these days. Everyone wants an SUV, keeping this need in mind, Indian automakers are developing SUVs and making them available in the market.
Auto makers are seeing rapid sales growth in this segment and even the smaller car segment has seen the introduction of SUV body styles over the years.

1. Hyundai Venue

Hyundai India is all set to launch the new Hyundai Place in Indian market on 16th June. The carmaker has officially started the bookings for the updated Venue. The booking can be done at any Hyundai dealership across the country or on the company’s official website for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
Coming to the design of the 2022 Hyundai Venue, the design is inspired by the all-new Creta. It gets a new set of bumpers at both the ends and the front grille is inspired by its older siblings the Creta and Tucson. It also gets a new set of LED headlamps with LED DRLs at the front and the rear design is now funky with the use of a KIA Sonet-like light bar between the tail lamps.
Talking about the interiors, the layout design is expected to remain the same as the previous generation, but Hyundai may change the interiors of the cabin to make the interior feel modern and upmarket. The new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is one of the major updates inside the cabin. Like the previous version, it supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Blue-Link connectivity.
The Hyundai Venue is already loaded with features like automatic climate control, an air purifier, an electric sunroof, BlueLink connected car technology and TPMS. Other additional features like digital instrument cluster, front ventilated seats, 360-degree parking camera and redesigned steering wheel are expected to be part of the package.
Engine options will include 83PS 1.2-litre petrol with 5-speed manual, 100PS 1.5-litre diesel with 6-speed manual and 120PS 1-litre turbo-petrol with 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT. (clutchless manual), and a 7-speed DCT.
With the outgoing model priced from Rs 7.11 lakh to Rs 11.83 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), we expect the new Venue to be costlier by at least Rs 50,000. The Venue will continue to compete with the likes of Kia Sonet, Vitara Brezza, Renault Kiegar, Nissan Magnite, Tata Nexon, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Kia and Mahindra XUV300.
2. Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the new Scorpio named Scorpio-N in the Indian market on 27th June. A few days back Mahindra released teaser images revealing the complete silhouette of the SUV.
Designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai, the new Scorpio will be bigger than the previous generation model. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N will be equipped with the latest features and a new layout.
The overall design of the SUV looks quite muscular. At the front, Mahindra has kept its vertical grille design which expands to become the double-barrel headlamp. The front bumper also gets a honeycomb pattern grille along with fog lamps along with C-shaped LED DRLs at the bottom of the front bumper.
Moving to the side, the new Scorpio gets a new set of diamond-cut alloy wheels, which measure 18-inches, and a chrome beltline with a slight rake from the C-pillar.
At the rear, the 2022 Scorpio gets vertically mounted tail lamps and side-opening tailgate. The rear bumper flaunts a much flatter profile similar to the outgoing model. Also, the reverse lights of the SUV have been placed at the end of the bumper with a wrap-around chrome strip.
Coming to the interiors, the interiors will also be all-new and is expected to feature a much larger touchscreen, vertically placed AC vents and some of the interior elements shared with the XUV700.
The new Scorpio-N will get two engine options – petrol and diesel. Both engines will be borrowed by the XUV 700. However, due to a different tuning setup, the engine in the Scorpio will produce less power and torque. Both the engines will be available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed-torque converter.
When launched, the Mahindra Scorpio will compete with the Tata Safari, MG Hector and Hyundai Alcazar. The new SUV will be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan plant. The new Scorpio should be priced between Rs 12 to 19 lakhs (ex-showroom).
3. Maruti Suzuki Brezza

2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza is scheduled to be launched in India on 30 June.
Talking about the design, new brezza Gets a new grille up front, sleeker headlamps with L-shaped daytime running lights, a new set of 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels along with a more substantial plastic body cladding.
Moving to the rear, the SUV will be equipped with slim wraparound LED taillights with Brezza lettering just below the Suzuki emblem. The compact SUV will continue to be equipped with front and rear faux skid plates like the current version.
The SUV will be equipped with a floating touchscreen infotainment system which can be up to 9 inches in size. The car will also get a new flat-bottom steering wheel as seen in the new Baleno but paddle shifters in the Brezza.
Talking about the features, the new generation Brezza is expected to come equipped with wireless charger, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, electronic stability control, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, Suzuki Connect connected-car technology, paddle shifters Is. AT only) as well as a factory-fitted electric sunroof, making it the first Maruti Suzuki car to be available with this feature in the country.
Coming to the engine and transmission department, the 2022 Maruti Brezza will be powered by the same K15B 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 103 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, along with a new 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission that will replace the 4-speed AT.
When launched, the Brezza will continue to compete with the Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon as well as the new Hyundai Venue facelift, which is slated to launch this month.
The price of the current generation Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza starts at Rs 7.84 lakh, but looking at all the changes as well as the new features, the price of the new Brezza could start from around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
4. Toyota Haider

Toyota India is all set to unveil its new midsize SUV (codename: D22) in India on July 1, 2022. This new SUV is jointly developed by Suzuki in India and will also be a variant of Maruti Suzuki (codenamed YFG). After a while see the light of day.
According to various reports, this new mid-size SUV is expected to be called Toyota Hyder, but the company is yet to officially confirm the name.
As mentioned earlier, this new SUV is jointly developed by Suzuki and Toyota as part of their global partnership. The two new upcoming SUVs in India will be based on a new architecture that is based on the modular DNGA platform sourced from Daihatsu. The DNGA platform is specifically designed for emerging markets and is used for many Toyota and Daihatsu vehicles in international markets.
The upcoming mid-size SUV from Toyota and Suzuki has been spotted testing several times on Indian roads. The main attraction of this SUV is the hybrid engine. Both the SUVs are expected to be powered by Maruti’s 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with minor tuning. This engine will be mated to an electric motor which further improves the performance and efficiency.
The new Toyota Hyder will take on established players in the segment like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushak and VW Taigun. The SUV is expected to feature premium appeal and connected car tech, 360-degree cameras, ventilated front seats, heads-up display, electrically adjustable driver seat, touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof and many more.
When launched, the new mid-size SUV competes with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor. We expect the new SUV to be priced between Rs 10-18 lakh (ex-showroom).
5. Hyundai Tucson

Hyundai India recently announced that it will launch the all-new Tucson SUV in the Indian market in the second half of 2022.
The exterior design will see a major change with the introduction of a new ‘parametric’ grille, which will seamlessly integrate with the LED DRLs.
In terms of features, the fourth generation Hyundai Tucson is likely to get a digital instrument cluster, Hyundai’s ‘BlueLink’ connected technology, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a panoramic sunroof among others. The brand may offer ADAS technology on the 2022 Hyundai Tucson as well.
The new generation Tucson will continue to have the same engine options as the current generation. The updated SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will be capable of producing 182 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. It will also come with a 4WD system on the top variant. Globally, Tucson also comes with hybrid power trains.
The current model is available in the price range of Rs 22-27 lakh (ex-showroom) and the new model is likely to be priced higher. When launched, the 2022 Tucson will take on the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass, MG Hector and the Citroen C5.
