Congress MLA Michael Lobo has said that he is with the party after the disqualification filed against him.
He made the remarks during a meeting called by senior Congress leader Mukul Wasnik on Monday night.
Wasnik arrived in Goa on Monday afternoon to monitor the latest political developments in the coastal state and held several meetings with legislators and other senior leaders to deal with the situation.
In the evening, the party filed a disqualification petition with the Speaker of the Assembly against former chief ministers Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo for “anti-party” activities.
Though Kamat (along with Wasnik) remained absent during the meeting, Lobo reached the Congress office and discussed the current political situation. Barring Kamat, all ten party MLAs were present in the meeting.
Congress’ Goa in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday alleged that Lobo was trying to divide the MLAs.
He said, ‘I have made my stand very clear. I have told him that I am with the Congress party. I have been elected with the Congress party… This is our five-year term. We have to be with the party,” Lobo told reporters after the meeting.
“I have asked him (Wasnik) to discuss the issues personally. I am not trying to divide Congress.
Commenting on the disqualification filed against him, Lobo asked whether being absent for the press conference could become grounds for disqualification.
The action against Lobo was initiated on Sunday night after he did not attend a press conference called by the party.
“We are all in this together. I have told Dinesh Gundu Rao and GPCC President Amit Patkar that whatever is happening since I was elected as MLA and CLP leader… the number of cases registered against me. I have Told him, ‘I will not be able to do justice to the post (CLP) and asked him to give the post of CLP to another MLA among us.’
“There is no ground for disqualification. It is for the Speaker to decide.” He said the “doubts” were cleared from the minds of the Congress leaders.
