Abu Dhabi: India’s batting coach Vikram Rathor confirmed on Tuesday that he has already applied again for the same position as he feels there is a lot of work to be done.
Rathore is the only one in the current support staff looking forward to a second stint as head coach Ravi Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar Decided to move on.
“Going forward, I have already applied for the job of batting coach and if I get the job, there will be a lot of work to be done. (I) will take it as it is,” Rathore said of the team against Afghanistan. Pre-match press conference for a question from match PTI.
Rathore takes over India batting coach Former India batsman Sanjay Bangari in 2019 and his appointment was till the end of the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Under Rathor’s leadership as batting coach, India won a historic Test series in Australia and also defeated England on their home soil earlier this year.
The 52-year-old Rathor, born in Jalandhar, played six Tests and seven ODIs for India, amassing meager returns of 131 and 193 runs, respectively.
The right-handed batsman played 146 first-class matches and scored 11,473 runs in that.
Rathore insists it was a great experience working with the captain Virat Kohli And his boys in the Indian dressing room.
“I thought it was for the PC World Cup. But anyway I can answer that question. So, the experience (with the Indian team) has been great.
“It has been a wonderful learning experience. It has been great to work with a team of such highly motivated and skilled players, so it has been a great experience,” he added.
NS BCCI has invited applications for the post of Head Coach, Batting Coach, Bowling Coach and Fielding Coach and the last date to apply for the job of Batting Coach is 3 November till 5 PM.
