Khunti: An IAS officer detained JharkhandPolice gave this information on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a trainee engineering student in Khunti district.
Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar said that the 2019 batch officer was taken into custody on Monday night after a case was registered at Khunti Mahila Police Station.
A case has been registered under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), he said.
Kumar said eight engineering students from outside the state, including the survivor, were in Khunti for training.
They said they had attended the dinner organized at the Deputy Development Commissioner’s residence on Saturday.
She told the police in a statement that the IAS officer in the party found the girl alone and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The SP said that prima facie the allegation was found to be true after questioning the officer and some guests who attended the party.
He told that the student has been sent for medical checkup.
