Kohli has been performing poorly with the bat and has failed to score a century since November 2019. He could only manage 76 runs in six innings on England soil across formats which included the rescheduled fifth Test, two ODIs and as many T20s.
“If I had about 20 minutes with her, I would be able to tell her what she might need to do. It might help her, I’m not saying it would help her, but it’s especially helpful for that off May be in relation to the stump. Line,” Gavaskar Told ‘India Today’.
“Being an opener, after having trouble with that line, there are a few things you try and do.”
Kohli’s thin patch has led to his ouster from T20 World Cup squad, even as legends Kapil Dev supported his boycott.
However, many former and current cricketers, including Babar Azmi, Kevin Pietersen And Shoaib Akhtar Have supported him to come well in the upcoming games.
“It goes back to the fact that his first mistake becomes his last. Then, just because he’s not among the runs, it’s a concern to play on every delivery because that’s what the batsmen think, they have to score Gavaskar said.
“You want to play balls you wouldn’t play otherwise. But he has also got out for good deliveries on this particular tour.”
Kohli has been rested for the limited overs series against the West Indies which includes five T20Is and three ODIs.
Gavaskar also praised Rishabh Pant To bat responsibly in the third ODI against England.
“Rishabh Pant Seems to have learned from his mistakes against South Africa. He chased the balls outside the stumps and threw them over the leg side, but the way he batted with responsibility yesterday shows how well he carried his innings,” said the 73-year-old.
“The way he hit the boundary at the end showed that he can handle the pressure and then attack. We will have to wait and see (whether Pant is able to replicate this form in T20Is) The right blueprint for playing cricket with the white ball.”
Pant scored his maiden ODI century against England at Old Trafford in Manchester and helped India seal the three-match series 2-1.
