‘If it doesn’t come…’: Vivek Agnihotri uses Farhan Akhtar’s lines to respond to Nadav Lapid’s apology

Vivek Agnihotri said he doesn’t care what Nadav says after the latter apologized over his remarks on the lapidary film The Kashmir Files. During the closing ceremony of IFFI 2022 in Goa, the Iranian filmmaker, who was also the jury chief, called Vivek Agnihotri’s film propaganda and obscene, leading to a huge uproar. In a recent interview with CNN News18, the filmmaker apologized and said, “I didn’t mean to insult anyone, and it was never my intention to insult people or their relatives who are victims. If that’s what he meant, I sincerely apologise.”

However, Vivek Agnihotri said that he does not care what Nadav says. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said, “I don’t care what he says. It’s over for me. Seriously, I don’t care what he says or doesn’t say.”

He further added, “I have come to Pune to shoot and I am getting a lot of love for the film. People are thanking me for making the film so why do I need an advertisement from a foreigner? What does he know about my country”. Agnihotri used Farhan Akhtar’s quote in response to Nadav’s apology. “My only reply is to quote Farhan Akhtar – If it doesn’t come from the heart, it isn’t an apology.”

Meanwhile, Nadav Lapid, via Hindustan Times, told Israeli news website YNet that he was apprehensive before sharing his views but had to share his opinion. He said that he knew that the program was ‘connected to the country’ and it was not an easy situation for him.

“It is not an easy situation, because you are a guest, I am the president of the jury here, you are treated very well. And then you come and invade the festival. There was an apprehension, and there was an uneasiness. I Didn’t know what its dimensions would be, so I did it with some apprehension. Yes, I spent the day apprehensive. Let’s put it this way: I’m happy to be on my way to the airport now,” he said.
