Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi A large national flag has been installed in its premises built using smart textile technology. The 108-feet flag fabric material and design has been engineered by IIT Delhi startup SWATRIC. The startup has been successful in “improving the strength and quality of seams and making the flag 30 per cent lighter in weight,” said Professor Bipin Kumar, IIT Delhi’s Department of Textiles and Fiber Engineering and Patron of Swatrick.
“The 108 feet memorial #NationalFlag was hoisted at the #IITDelhi campus on Saturday. The Chief Guest Shri Naveen Jindal, Founder, Flag Foundation of India and President, Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) unfurled the tricolor in the presence of senior office bearers, staff and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya of the Institute. The flag fabric material and design has been engineered by IIT Delhi startup Swatrick,” the institute said through social media platform, Facebook.

IIT Delhi claims that SWATRIC has designed several advanced fabric structures for the first monumental National Flag Tricolor. Flag Foundation of India has put up monumental flags at various places in the country using the advanced flag fabric developed by the startup. It said that these flags have been kept under observation for their durability.
