Indian Institute technology (IIT) Hyderabad will introduce a new online MTech program in Heritage Science and technology in the coming academic year. The course will be offered by the Institute’s Heritage Department of Science and Technology (HST), inaugurated by Vijay Bhatkar, known as the father of India’s PARAM series of supercomputers, on International Yoga Day, June 21 .
Speaking at the launch of the new department at IIT Hyderabad, Bhatkar said that bringing science and heritage to one of the country’s premier intuitions was a step in Indian academics. “It shows how to recreate the ancient Takshashilas and Nalanda in a contemporary form,” Bhatkar told the Indian Express.
The online master’s program in Heritage Science and Technology will be offered in three specializations – Technology for Yoga, Indian Language Processing, and Conservation and Reconstruction. The second year of the course will be specifically earmarked for a thesis project with a focus on research or product development.
Students will also have the option to opt out of the course after one year with Post Graduate Diploma (PGD). Candidates can send their application online through the official website of the department http://www.hst.iith.ac.in on or before 7 July.
