‘Implementation of NEP in UP will lead to better coordination between educational institutions’ – Times of India

Lucknow, Sep 4 (PTI): education system in Uttar Pradesh will be arranged according to national education policy ,NEP-2020) and focus on providing job-oriented holistic education to the students, according to Prof Dhirendra Pal Singh, Education Advisor to the Chief Minister of the State.
Singh, former President of University Grants Commissiontold PTI-language that due to the implementation of NEP-2020 in the state, mutual coordination will be better educational institution which is necessary to improve the quality of education.
“Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Concerned about the quality of education in the state. He wants quality education to be accessible. CM believes that the development of the country will happen when attention will be paid to develop the character of the students and from basic education to inculcating the feeling of nationalism in them.
Singh said, “NEP-2020 focuses on holistic education which also includes vocational and interest based subjects which can be opted by the students. Studying these subjects will definitely help the students in their employability as per the demand of the job market. will help improve.”
NEP-2020 allows students to choose subjects of their choice beyond their stream (Science, Commerce, Arts). For example, a student studying Mathematics along with Physics can also choose Music or Philosophy as one of the subjects. Though it gives a wide choice of subject selection to the students, it creates a challenge for the education institutions.
Singh said that the higher education institutions in the state need to modify their system to accommodate the requirements of NEP-2020.
He said, “Educational institutions are divided at school, college and university level which prevents knowledge sharing and limits the preview of quality education. This can be removed by improving relations between them with the help of NEP-2020. could.”
To improve the quality of education, Singh is of the view that higher education institutions should apply for the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) carried out by the Ministry of Education.
“Application for NAAC accreditation and NIRF ranking provides an opportunity for institutions to assess themselves and make necessary changes or improvements. We aim to ensure that all higher education institutions in the state are eligible for NAAC and NIRF rankings in the next three years. Apply. Institutions which have NAAC rating will help other institutions to achieve the same,” Singh said.
NIRF ranks engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medicine, architecture and dental institutions in its areas of operation.
Talking about teachers, he said that the implementation of NEP-2020 would require capacity building and training of teachers in the state.
“Under the NEP, teachers have to fulfill various responsibilities for which they should be trained,” he said.
Singh, who has served as the Vice-Chancellor of various universities, said that the implementation of NEP-2020 includes aspects of capacity building of teachers.
The Advisor said that he aims to reach out to the Departments of Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Higher Education and Technical Education to streamline the process of implementation of NEP-2020.
“NEP-2020 has several goals. These include increasing the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in both schools and higher educational institutions. Another goal is to establish a global level Multidisciplinary Education and Research University (MERU) in each district This will diversify the availability of universities across the state,” Singh said.
Asked about the status of research in the state, the Advisor said he plans to link universities with higher research institutes.
“The Chief Minister is of the view that higher research should include issues relating to the state or the region in which the institute is located. This aspect is presently missing or overlooked. There is a need to link universities with research institutes and laboratories for better interaction. The plan is there to share more knowledge,” he explained.
The Advisor said that in the first phase, the universities would be linked to the Institutes of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) located in different parts of the state.
CSIR institutions will be encouraged to mentor and support universities and colleges by allowing their students to benefit from their knowledge and resources.
