State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman Dinesh Khara on Friday said the improvement in capacity utilization from 69 per cent to 74 per cent shows that the economy is ready for its natural growth.
He said that among the large countries of the world, India is one of the most stable economies in the current situation.
“The way in which the capacity utilization in the economy has increased from 69 per cent to 74 per cent, and is moving upwards, it is a clear indication that the economy is ready for its natural growth,” Mr Khara said at a banking conference. “
He said that the country has handled the pandemic well and the economy is performing very well.
Talking about credit demand, Mr. Khara said that both the retail and corporate sector is witnessing a boom.
“I would say it (credit demand) is universal. Our retail book is growing at over 16 per cent per annum. This has been the trend for more than 4-5 years. On the corporate side, there was a time when the corporate market But now gradually they are moving towards banks to avail CP (commercial paper) funding. So this is also a new engine of growth,” Mr. Khara said.
