In Bengaluru, 60 students test Covid positive, schools closed till October 20

A residential school in Bengaluru has become a COVID-19 cluster after 60 of its nearly 500 students tested positive. Two were found to have symptoms and the school has been closed till October 20.

Bengaluru (Urban) District Collector J Manjunath told news agency ANI that the symptomatic students were admitted to the hospital and the rest were quarantined at a proper medical facility.

Concerned parents and guardians called to ask if they could take their children back home, but Mr Manjunath insisted there was “no cause for concern”.

“It’s a boarding school… the students were there for a month. When they came to the school, they had no symptoms. Of the 60 people who tested positive (on Sunday evening), only two are symptomatic. Our team There is… we have tested everyone,” he said.

Mr Manjunath said that 105 RAT (rapid antigen test, less reliable type) and 424 RT-PCR (considered more accurate COVID-19 test) were done, and a team of medical and government officials Was posted in quarantine. Student Accommodation Center.

Of the students who tested positive, 14 were from Tamil Nadu and the rest from Karnataka.

Upon that student testing positive for the virus, COVID-19 tests were conducted for the entire school, including the teaching and non-teaching staff, which numbered around 60.

Shankar, a parent of a student, told NDTV, “The children have been infected… So, at the behest of the school, we are taking our children home.”

A Class 12 student said, “I am going back to Bengaluru… 60 students are infected here. I will be back on October 20.”

Karnataka recently allowed schools to open for individual classes for classes 6 to class 8, while requiring students and staff to follow strict COVID-19 safety protocols.

Only schools in taluks where the positivity rate is less than two per cent were allowed to reopen.

Under the new rules, students were required to submit consent forms from parents or guardians to attend in-person classes, and these were not mandatory as online classes continue.

Individual classes were allowed from August 23 for students of class 9 to class 12, and from class 6 onwards all individual classes can be held in full force.

Karnataka on Wednesday morning reported 629 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, taking the active caseload to a little over 12,600. The positivity rate in the state is around .67 percent.
