Deepak Hooda continued his stellar run in the ongoing tour as he scored a scintillating half-century as India beat Derbyshire County team by seven wickets in a T20 warm-up match in Derby.
Hooda, who scored his maiden T20I century in India’s second match against Ireland, scored 59 off 37 balls and shared a 78-run stand for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (36 not out) as India had 20 balls to spare. Live chased 151 runs.
Hooda’s innings hit five fours and two sixes while Yadav, who was returning from injury, hit four fours and a six during his unbeaten knock on Friday.
Opener Sanju Samson also smashed 38 off 30 balls while Dinesh Karthik, who led the visiting side, remained unbeaten on seven to help India win in 16.4 overs.
Earlier, speed merchants Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each as India restricted Derbyshire to 150 for 8 after taking the field.
Axar Patel and Venkatesh Iyer took a wicket each as Derbyshire lost wickets at regular intervals. Wayne Madsen scored 28 runs in 21 balls for Derbyshore.
The visiting Indian team will play their second warm-up match against Northamptonshire on Sunday ahead of the three-match T20I series against England in Southampton starting on July 7.
