Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against India, which is scheduled to begin after the conclusion of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. By playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

According to a report in ESPN Cricinfo, Richardson suffered a hamstring strain in his first-class game since suffering the injury early during the BBL. The bowler has not played since a hamstring strain in January.

At the initial stage, the injury appeared to be minor and Richardson was expected to return for the final of the Big Bash League. However, it took two months for him to get back on the field. Neither did he feature in the Perth Scorchers’ BBL title run, nor did he play Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield cricket. He was nevertheless named in Australia’s 16-man squad for the ODIs starting on 17 March in Mumbai.

Reports further suggested that Nathan Ellis has been named as Richardson’s replacement for the series.

The report further stated that Richardson dealt with soft-tissue injuries over the last two seasons in addition to a shoulder injury in 2019. Opening the bowling against England in December 2021 at Adelaide, he took five wickets but was eventually dismissed. Next Test He has not played Test cricket since then with a heel injury.

Richardson played for Australia in ODIs and T20 Internationals in Sri Lanka in June 2022. Prior to the domestic season in October, his pre-season was disrupted by several soft tissue concerns. As a result, he was restricted to just two Sheffield Shield games and one Marsh Cup game before the BBL.
