IND vs WI: Shimron Hetmyer recalled by West Indies for T20I series

Shimron Hetmyer was recalled by West Indies for one-on-one Twenty20 series on Thursday India And New Zealand are looking to secure a spot as a batsman World cup.

Hetmyer, a left-hander, was dropped from the international set-up due to question marks over his fitness.

The 25-year-old played the last of his 42 T20 Internationals against Australia at the 2021 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in November last year.

Chief selector Desmond Haynes said: “We welcome Hetmyer and it’s great to see him again in West Indies colors.”

“He will strengthen the batting group and with his experience and adaptability we have a ‘finisher’ who can add value to the team and win matches and make supporters happy.”

Hetmyer is part of the 16-man squad for the five-match series against India that Brian Lara plays in. Cricket Academy on Friday in Trinidad.

This will be followed by two matches in St Kitts and two more in Florida as India look to beat West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series.

The same squad of 16 players will travel to Jamaica for the three-match T20I series against New Zealand at Sabina Park, which runs from August 10-14.

The 2022 T20 World Cup will be held in Australia in October and November.
