India thrashed Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third ODI on Sunday to clinch the ODI series against the Asian champions 3-0. Earlier this year, the young Indian team, led by Hardik Pandya, won the ODIs by defeating Sri Lanka 2-1 in the T20I series.
The margin of victory is the largest in the history of men’s One Day International cricket.
Virat Kohli thrashed Sri Lankan bowlers and inched closer to some of the best records in the world of cricket. Kohli made a mammoth contribution of 166 off 110 balls, combined with another century by Shubman Gill, as India’s final score reached 390/5.
Kohli, who was named man of the series, said, “Today I was happy to bat out there and played good cricket at that position. I am in a good shape right now, just trying to be organic.” He also scored a century in the first match.
The Sri Lankan batsman faced the first balls against the Indian pacers with Mohammed Siraj taking 4 wickets in the game. The team was bowled out in just 22 overs and got all out for 72 runs.
Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka said, “It’s disappointing. We didn’t want a match like this. It happens.”
“We need to learn how to manage starts. Bowlers need to learn to take wickets on these decks and batsmen need to learn to score runs,” he added.
The team’s opening partnership again performed well and put on a close 95-run stand, with Rohit Sharma hitting 42 while Gill played a brilliant knock of 116. Sharma.
Wins in both the T20 and ODI series against the Asian giants will be a big boost for the Indian cricket team ahead of the Cricket World Cup 2023.
