India records 15,981 new COVID-19 cases, down 5.7% from yesterday

India recorded 15,981 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, down 5.7% as compared to yesterday. The country also recorded 166 deaths due to coronavirus, taking the total death count to 4,51,980.

  1. The government is making constant efforts to speed up the vaccination campaign across the country. So far 97.23 crore vaccine doses have been given.

  2. According to official data, the national recovery rate currently stands at 98.08 per cent, the highest since March last year. The total number of cured people increased to 3,33,99,961 after 17,861 were cured in the last 24 hours.

  3. The daily positivity rate – the number of positive cases identified per 100 tests – stands at 1.73 per cent, down from 3 per cent for the past 47 days. The weekly positivity rate is 1.44 percent.

  4. A total of 8,36,118 vaccine doses have been given in the last 24 hours.

  5. A total of 58.98 crore coronavirus tests have been conducted so far including 9,23,003 samples tested till yesterday.

  6. According to official data, Delhi recorded zero deaths due to COVID-19 and a positivity rate of 0.04 per cent among 26 fresh cases on Friday.

  7. Kerala recorded 8,867 new Covid-19 cases and 67 deaths on Friday, according to the state health bulletin.

  8. The country is slowly opening up with precautions. In the midst of the festive season, experts have cautioned against laxity.

  9. A press release issued by the Travancore Devaswom Board on Friday said that the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple will reopen for ‘Thula Masam’ worship at 5 pm today. Devotees will be allowed only on the basis of virtual booking system. They have to submit either their double dose vaccination certificate or RT-PCR negative certificate before entering the temple.

  10. IMF’s Gita Gopinath said earlier this week that a large number of people in the country are vaccinated, but the risk of a third wave remains.
