India records 795 new COVID cases, 58 deaths; Active cases come down to 12,054

India reported 795 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, showed data uploaded on Tuesday. With this, the number of active cases in the country has now come down to 12,054. India recorded 58 deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll in the country to 5,21,416.

With 1,280 people being discharged in the last 24 hours, the number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 has now risen to 4,24,96,369.

The ministry said the number of active cases is 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is 98.76 per cent.

India on Monday recorded less than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in 715 days.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the one crore mark on December 19, 2020. The country crossed the grim milestone of 20 million coronavirus cases on May 4 and 30 million on June 23 last year.

According to the health ministry, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.29 percent and the weekly positivity rate was 0.22 percent.

A total of 1,84,87,33,081 vaccines have been administered so far against COVID-19.

The health ministry insisted that over 70 per cent of the deaths were due to comorbidities.

“Our data is being collated with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR),” the ministry said on its website. The state wise distribution of data is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
