India recorded 861 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 4,30,36,132, while the active cases stood at 11,058, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Monday.
The death toll has risen to 5,21,691 with six fresh deaths, said the figures updated at 8 am.
The ministry said active cases comprise 0.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate is 98.76 per cent.
A decrease of 74 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in the 24-hour period.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 2020, 40 lakh on September 5, 2020 and 50 lakh on September 16, 2020.
It crossed 60 lakh on September 28, 2020, 70 lakh on October 11, 2020, 80 lakh on October 29, 2020, 90 lakh on November 20, 2020 and one crore on December 19, 2020.
The country crossed two crore COVID cases on May 4, 2021 and three crore on June 23, 2021.
The ministry insisted that more than 70 per cent of the deaths were due to co-morbidities.
