The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by DRDO is based on the Prithvi defense vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.
Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) sources said India on December 22 successfully test-fired a short-range, surface-to-surface guided ballistic missile ‘Prayal’ off the Odisha coast.
The solid-fuel, battlefield missile developed by DRDO is based on the Prithvi defense vehicle from the Indian ballistic missile programme.
Sources said the missile, which was launched from APJ Abdul Kalam Island at around 10.30 am, accomplished all the objectives of the mission. He said a battery of tracking equipment monitored its trajectory along the coastline.

Pralay is a 350-500 km short-range surface-to-surface missile with a payload capacity of 500-1,000 kg.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Twitter, “Congratulations to DRDO and its associated teams for the first development flight test.” “I congratulate him for the rapid development and successful launch of the advanced surface-to-surface semi-ballistic missile. This is an important milestone achieved today,” he said.
