India’s new privacy law is “very close” to being drafted and the government is targeting parliamentary approval in early 2023, the country’s IT minister told Reuters on Wednesday.

The Government of India withdrew the Data Protection and Privacy Bill earlier in the dayWhich was first proposed in 2019 and has alarmed big technology companies like Facebook and Google by announcing that it is working on a new comprehensive law.
“We have started drafting the new bill, which is in good advanced stages,” Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said.
