Indian spinners tightened their grip on the Kiwis after a strong start from Martin Guptill. Guptill was dismissed by Deepak Chahar, but the Kiwi opener did enough to overtake Virat Kohli in the list of highest run-scorers in T20Is. Axar Patel sent back the dreaded Mark Chapman. Akshar will have one more but Venkatesh Iyer drops the catch of Glenn Phillips. Earlier, Rohit Sharma had won the toss citing dew and decided to field. According to the Indian captain, Harshal Patel has been handed the debut at the cost of injured Mohammad Siraj. India will look to win the series against New Zealand in Ranchi as the 2021 T20 World Cup finalists in the second T20I match at the JSCA International Stadium Complex.
