After losing by 73 runs in the third and final T20I, New Zealand’s stand-in captain Mitchell Santner on Sunday said that his team was probably a bit off against the hosts and it cost them dearly. Rohit Sharma’s 56 was followed by a three-wicket haul from Axar Patel as India beat New Zealand by 73 runs in the third and final T20I at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday.
He said, “It is difficult to predict what the dew will be like. He bowled very well at the top, especially Axar. Credit to India for the way he played the whole series. We were probably off. A very good Indian team. Come against. Every game had periods,” Santner told host broadcaster Star Sports in a post-match presentation.
“The pressure that Rahul and Rohit put on us, it was difficult to come back. With the schedule being quite tight, it gives opportunities to other people. With the World Cup being in 11 months you always look ahead. The way Guptill batted at the top, different people chipping at different times,” he said.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma scored 56 runs as India posted 184/7. In the last three overs, the Men in Blue managed to add 36 more runs, taking the score past 180. Deepak Chahar smashed 21 runs off just 8 balls as India posted a more than competitive total on the board.
With this win, India won the three-match series 3-0 and both the teams will now face the two-match Test series in Kanpur starting on Thursday.
