According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, exports of Indian Mango was banned by the United States from 2020 because “USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) inspectors were unable to visit India for an inspection of the radiation facility due to restrictions placed on international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Under the mutual agreement, India will be able to export mangoes to the US during the mango season starting with Alphonso variety mangoes from March onwards,” the statement said. In addition to this alphonsoThe USDA approval will also pave the way for export of other delicious varieties of mangoes like Langra, Chausa, Dussehri, Fazli etc.
The ministry further said, “Notably, there is a great acceptance and consumer preference of Indian mangoes in the United States as India exported 800 Metric Tonnes (MT) of mangoes to the United States in 2017-18 and the export of the fruit The value was USD 2.75 million.” For Anvers, 1,095 MT of mangoes, valued at USD 4.35 million, were exported to USA in 2019-20. It is estimated that the export of mangoes in 2022 may exceed the figures of 2019-20.
Apart from this, export of pomegranate will start from April 2022. At the same time, the import of alfalfa grass and cherries from the US will also start in April 2022.
