As part of its ‘Army HPCL Kashmir Super 50’ initiative, Indian Army is providing free coaching facility to the students of North Kashmir to prepare for medical competitive examinations. The scheme is also extended to give financial assistance by sponsoring fees to students seeking admission in elite medical colleges across the country, news agency ANI reports.
Presently 30 boys and 20 girl students from North Kashmir region are studying in Army Sponsored Coaching. The project was started in 2018 with 30 students, of whom 25 cleared the entrance exam for medical colleges. These students were selected from the schools in the area on the basis of their performance in the written test. Last year, the number of coaching was increased from 30 to 50, so that more girl students could participate.

Talking about the scheme, Army sponsored coaching teacher Anupreeta Shandilya said that till now boys have achieved 100 percent success rate and hope that girls will also do well in the near future. She said, “I have been teaching here since July last year. When the students come, we take them through the subjects gradually, starting with the basics. It is really amazing that they can do whatever they want in any field. Come from, they all want to do well.”
Major General SS Sluria, GOC, Kilo Force, said that the situation in North Kashmir has improved significantly and has moved towards normalcy in the last few years. Stating that the sector has shown improvement in parameters such as decline in the incidence of terrorism in the tourism sector, General Sluria said that the youth have to choose their heroes well. “If they choose them well, they will be on the right track,” he was quoted as saying.

Earlier in December last year, the Army had organized a residential coaching center for underprivileged students from remote hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The coaching aims to help the students of the Valley in their studies during the COVID-19 pandemic and prepare them for competitive examinations for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Army Schools and Sainik Schools.
