Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain wins gold at Asian Boxing Championships

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain won the gold medal in the 75kg category at the Asian Boxing Championship. She won the gold medal by defeating Uzbekistan’s Ruzmetova Sokhiba 5-0 by unanimous decision. This is the Olympic bronze medalist’s first tournament in her new weight category. She increased her weight category from 69kg to 75kg as her former weight category was not included in the Paris Olympics.

A big win at the Asian Championships will serve as a big confidence boost for the 25-year-old, who has been battling form since her big win at the Tokyo Olympics. He had to pull out of the World Championships and Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

Both boxers were hesitant to start the fight and encouraged the other to strike first, but Lovlina, who has improved significantly throughout the competition, was able to use her long reach and score some clean jabs.

Although the two danced around the ring in an attempt to avoid each other’s punches, Lovlina manages to connect him. He delivered a punch so hard that the referee had no choice but to punch him.

22-year-old Parveen Hooda also won a gold medal in the 63kg category at the Asian Boxing Championships. The World Championships bronze medalist defeated Japan’s Kito Mai 5–0 by unanimous decision.

Both the boxers launched aggressive strikes, but top seed Parveen was able to control the fight by dodging her opponent on her own.

In another victory for India, Minashi won a silver medal in the women’s 52kg flyweight category. She missed her chance to win the gold medal by split decision, losing to Japan’s Kinoshita Rinka in the women’s 52kg flyweight final.
