Jaishankar said he conveyed personal greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Crew and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday evening on his arrival in Brussels for the last leg of his three-nation tour covering Bangladesh, Sweden and Belgium.
The minister said he received personal greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the meeting, which was also attended by ministerial aides Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and minister of state for skill development and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
“Delighted to call PM @alexanderdecroo of Belgium today as well as my colleagues – @PiyushGoyal and @rajeev_GOI. Conveyed the personal greetings of PM @narendramodi,” he tweeted.
“Discussed our growing bilateral cooperation including trade and technology. Also talked about contemporary strategic concerns,” he said.
Jaishankar is in Brussels for the first meeting of the India-EU Business and Technology Council to be held on Tuesday.
Shortly after meeting the Belgian PM, the Indian ministerial team also met the EU Commission and held open discussions on trade, technology and geopolitics.
“Thank you President of the @EU_Commission @vonderleyen for meeting the Indian Ministerial team. Appreciate the open discussion on trade, technology and geopolitics. Looking forward to the India-EU Trade & Technology Council meeting tomorrow,” the minister said in another tweet.
The External Affairs Minister arrived in Belgium after a three-day visit to Sweden, where he held a series of high-level discussions including the India Trilateral Forum in Stockholm and the European Union (EU) Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF).
